The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Palm Beach County recently honored Gift of Life Marrow Registry with the 2018 Triunfo Non-Profit Award at the 21st Annual Triunfo Awards Gala presented by Trustbridge held April 28, 2018 at the Hilton Palm Beach Airport.
The award is presented each year in recognition of work that benefits the Hispanic and Latino communities.
Hispanic blood cancer patients have only a 45% chance of finding a matching marrow or stem cell donor due to underrepresentation in the international marrow registry. Gift of Life has made a commitment to increase diversity in the registry so that every patient can find a donor when one is needed.
“Gift of Life is honored to accept this recognition of our mission to diversify the bone marrow registry,” said Marti Freund, Gift of Life Director of Community Engagement (pictured above, center), on accepting the award. “Currently 55% of Hispanic blood cancer patients are unable to find a donor. Our objective is to improve that number.”
In the past year, Gift of Life has focused on recruiting Hispanic and Latino donors through outreach programs and donor drives in cooperation with organizations and government agencies across South Florida and the United States.
Gift of Life thanks the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Palm Beach County for their recognition of our efforts to diversity the registry and save the lives of Hispanic and Latino patients who are battling blood cancers and inherited immune disorders.
